Why Suicide is a Brilliant Idea!

Warning this subject matter may trigger you, or annoy you, if so, and you feel sensitive about such issues read no further. It is also a work in progress.

How can anyone say such a thing I hear you cry, in outrage, it's a terrible thing, how dare you even raise your head above the parapet, to suggest anything good, about the end of a person life?

Death, is not discussed enough. It happens to everyone, and from my understanding, it is nearly always painful, sad, and or messy. The greatest pain, is often emotional, felt by the people surrounding the person, who has just died, or perhaps, been in the process of dying, painfully, for many years.

Life is sacred, people say.

Well, yes, and no. The lives of animals, plants, fish, and strange foreigners, in far off countries, clearly, and demonstrably, aren't.

We live in a Civilized Society! Any one who wants to commit suicide, clearly is mentally ill, or suffering from some kind of behavioural aberration!

Well, we don't.

We live in Society that, in real terms, holds people Hostage, at every turn and moment in their lives.
You are categorised. Pigeonholed.
Who are your parents?
Are they rich?
Are they reasonably well off?
Which Schools, Colleges, Universities, did you go to?
What job, if you need one, do you have?
What Race or Culture do you belong to?

Every step of your life you are required to Pay the ferryman.
Want a Home, that's warm and dry?
Pay someone the Rent, or buy it, with indentured servitude, or if you are Rich, perhaps with the small change from the back of your offshore Tax Haven.

So what you're thinking, that's just life.

Yes, it is.

But it is also symptomatic of a system, a culture, a Machine, that exists to control your every waking move, no matter who you are, Rich or Poor.

You are part of the Machine.

It exists, to make use of you, in any way it can, and to force you to behave in ways, that quite often are illogical, disadvantageous to you, or even twistedly cruel.

Five minutes late to work? You could lose your job.
A pain in your back? Take these Painkillers, which even the Doctors say should only be taken occasionally. Never deal with the cause, long drives, daily coach journies, over crowded trains, daily marathon walking commutes.

We live in a system that has twisted our minds and perceptions to accept as normal, things our ancestors, a thousand years ago, would have fought to the death to avoid.

You've got to keep working, you have a Mortgage to pay,  the Rent, School Fees, the payment on that new Sports Car, the allowance for the trophy girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, wife, mistress, and so on.
That's 'Society', the Machine, telling you it needs you, it values your services, because if it can't have them, it's going to make your life Hell.

You can't do anything about it, because all the other Slaves, are too scared of the Machine, to refuse to be a cog any more. Being a Cog, of course, is your fault and your responsibility.
This creates stress and anxiety, if Cogginess is not natural to you.
Of course no one is naturally a Cog. You have to learn how to do it.
Aspects of daily life are charged for. You pay Rent on everything, a proportion of which supports the lives of the Rich.
If you cannot pay the Rent, then that aspect of your life is circumscribed.
That too, is stressful.

We could have a much better 'Society', a much better 'Machine' to live within. A ten hour working week, people only doing the work which was actually needed, the non jobs abolished, people not living in fear of the bailiff, the landlord, their friends, starvation, humiliation, and so on.

Even rich people, are forced by the Machine, to play a role. Agree to this, or you'll lose your seat on the board, raise the dividends, get the bonus, or your family won't be able to have all the things your neighbour has, and well, you'll be laughed at in the Country Club, your Wife may even divorce you.

What has all this got to do with the big 'S' word?

Lots. Suicide is a choice.

The Machine exists to take your choices away, and limit them, to what it wants.

The Machine does not care if you are a square peg in a round hole.

The Machine does not even care if you are Rich or Poor.

The Machine does not care if you are sick, or in pain.

It only cares that you fit whatever arbitrary and ruthless terms it is enforcing that day. You may have been getting on just fine yesterday, you might be fine tomorrow, but it is right now that matters.

If you don't fit today's shape, the Machine says, it is your fault, change or suffer.

The consequences of not fitting in, can vary dramatically, depending on where you are, anything from a reprimand at work, loss of some wealth, friends, or indeed, if you fall foul of the wrong Slaves of the Machine, you could lose your life (see Policing in America.)

So, the Machine 'Society', the transformation of Human Life into a giant ant hill, busily being busy, exists to control you, your actions, your thoughts, even your dreams.

And if this causes you pain, that's your fault. Emotional pain, is not allowed for under the Machine. It is a disease, there are tablets for it, courses, where other Slaves, presumably better off well adjusted Slaves, will tell you why you are wrong, and how to be someone else.

The Machine, of course, if it needs you, will make random, lovely sounding promises, to win you over. A Pension, Health cover, a Safe place to live. Normally, these 'benefits' are patchily supplied. Your Pension may be worth nothing or next to, when you collect it. Your Healthcare, will be whatever you get on the day, according to the lottery, of where you are, and who you see. Your 'Safety', is more generalised, and chance determined, than you could imagine, or believe.

So, there it is. You only have the choices the Machine wants you to have.
If you want something else, you better make a good case for it, or the Machine will label you a problem, something to be dealt with, as harshly as necessary, no more, no less.

Religion, is of course, just another aspect of the Machine. It supplies comfort, not necessarily the comfort people actually need, but the comfort they are allowed to have.

Heaven help you if you want to exercise free will.

Religion will frown on you for many reasons.

For some reason, it cares what you do in your bed room.

If there's an omnipotent deity, why would it have made sex pleasurable, and fun, if it was going to pour scorn, and malice upon the act?

More to the point, all the hardships of life, could be swept away at a whim, by a well meaning omnipotent force.

So, if there is a deity, it is either not omnipotent, or not well meaning.

However, digging into theology is not the point of this article.

It's about suicide.

The Buddhists say, 'Life is suffering'. From an observational point of view, that would be largely correct. Everyone has, as many bad experiences as good ones, usually.
For them, leaving one incarnation early, they would regard as pointless, as whatever suffering you avoid now, will still have to be paid for later, in another life. A bit pessimistic.

Other religions, regard making the ultimate personal choice as a Sin. One for which, no matter how bad your current life is, the punishment is, conveniently, worse.

Apparently, an eternity burning in a lake of fire.

Charming.

So, not only won't the omnipotent deity cure your Cancer, relieve the oppression you feel every day, as you toil for a crust and a roof over your head, or take away the pain you feel, but it is going to torture you for eternity if you opt out.

Great stuff.

In this Religion voices the Machine of Society's greatest fears.

What if People won't play the game?

What if People no longer fear the ultimate sanction?

What if People refuse to suffer?

What if People decide to 'die on their feet, rather than living on their knees'? (As the old saying goes).

What if People choose to kill the Machine, instead?

The Machine of Society, lives on the fear of it's cogs, kill the fear, choose to be different, and the Machine will die.

The choice of course, is yours, whether the Machine likes it or not.
